닥줄기 핸들 오브제 트레이

[PIAZ] 디자인스튜디오 피아즈는 한국 전통 미학을 현대적으로 재해석하여 창작합니다. PIAZ는 Project Identity A to Z 의 약자로, 디자인과 제작의 다양한 가능성을 탐구하며, 소재가 지닌 시각적 촉각적 한계를 넘어서는 주제를 담고 있습니다.                                                                     

[전보경] 전보경 작가는 닥나무 줄기와 옻칠이라는 전통 재료를 바탕으로 한국의 자연과 정서를 현대적으로 풀어낸다. 작업에 사용되는 닥줄기는 겨울철 사람의 손으로 채취한 닥나무에서 얻어지며, 폭과 길이, 결의 방향이 모두 달라 활용 가능한 부분이 제한적이다. 작가는 그중 형태와 결이 적합한 부분을 하나하나 선별하고, 붙이고, 이어가고, 쌓아나가는 반복적인 과정을 통해 조형의 구조를 만들어간다. 이후 옻칠과 건조, 연마의 과정을 거치며 닥줄기의 불규칙한 결은 깊이 있는 표면의 질감과 밀도로 드러난다.  전보경의 작업은 자연재료의 시간성과 수작업의 흔적을 절제된 형태 안에 담아내며, 전통 재료가 현대적 조형으로 확장되는 감각적 경험을 제안한다. 

손잡이 구멍을 더해 기능성과 조형성을 함께 갖춘 닥줄기 오브제 트레이입니다. 선별된 닥줄기를 붙이고 이어가며 구조를 만들고, 반복적인 옻칠과 건조 과정을 통해 닥줄기 특유의 질감과 밀도 있는 표면을 살렸습니다.

PIAZ Design Studio creates work by reinterpreting traditional Korean aesthetics in a contemporary context.
An abbreviation of Project Identity A to Z, PIAZ explores the full spectrum of design and making, pursuing new possibilities that extend beyond the visual and tactile conventions of materials.

Jeon Bokyung

Jeon Bokyung creates contemporary objects rooted in Korean nature and sensibility, using traditional materials such as dak stems from the paper mulberry tree and ottchil, Korean lacquer.

The dak stems used in her practice are harvested by hand during the winter season. Each stem carries its own width, length, thickness, and grain direction, making the material inherently irregular and limiting the portions that can be used. From this restricted material, Jeon carefully selects each piece, then attaches, connects, and builds the stems through a repetitive process to form a sculptural structure.

The completed structure undergoes repeated stages of lacquer application, drying, and polishing. Through this process, the irregular grain of the dak stems is transformed into a surface of quiet depth and density, revealing both the passage of time and the traces of the maker’s hand.

Jeon’s work holds the temporality of natural materials and the discipline of handwork within restrained forms. Her practice offers a sensory experience in which traditional materials are reimagined and expanded into a contemporary sculptural language.
